The MERV 11 filter is made of a thicker material than the MERV 8, which means that more energy is consumed to allow enough air to pass through. This can lead to a slow but inevitable deterioration of the components of the air conditioning, so it's important to maintain your oven regularly. The use of an oven filter with a MERV rating higher than that required in your use case may have adverse effects. The thickness of the filtering material of a MERV filter 11, for example, is greater than that of a MERV filter 8.Therefore, in order for enough air to pass through the filter, a greater amount of energy is consumed.
Increased use can lead to more wear and tear, so be sure to maintain your oven regularly. However, MERV 11 filters are not considered too tall for residential use. A product superior to MERV 11 is designed for commercial use or in homes with family members who suffer from respiratory problems. MERV 11 filters are more efficient than MERV 8 filters because they can capture smaller particles.
They offer additional protection against pet dander, dust mites, automatic emissions, and dust that damages the lungs. This is a good option for homes with pets or for those looking for even better air quality than the MERV 8 can offer. It's also our most popular type of air filter. Although the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recommends MERV 13, it may not be the most efficient option for some residential HVAC systems.
In fact, MERV 11 may even be too restrictive. It's best to comply with the furnace manufacturer's recommendations or consult an HVAC professional to determine exactly which MERV rating is best for your specific system. If you want to remove more particles from the air, you can use a filter with a different material. The pores of these filters are much smaller, allowing the filter to trap more contaminants from the air stream, but it also adds more resistance.
Higher MERV filters have greater resistance. When you have a Merv 13 or higher filter, it's more like the material you'd find in an n95 dust mask. Finally, I say that peace of mind is priceless and that if they think that a high MERV filter would provide that, they should do so with the exception that they must replace dirty filters often enough - 26%, it could be one or two weeks depending on the MERV classification, the effective area of the filter and the amount of particles that enter your house. MERV 8 air filters are almost as affordable as the least efficient products, making them good value for money.
MERV 8 air filters are very common because they are a fairly complete option, so you might think that they have an excellent price but a poor performance. I don't think a filter has to fit perfectly - the chances of a particle pointing to the crack and escaping the filter each time it is in a recircular system defy the laws of Brownian motion. Never apply cascading filters because never do it in cascade as the cumulative restriction in the system will be too great. Using an air filter with a MERV rating that is too high is just as bad as using one that is too low.
In particular, using an air filter with a MERV rating that is too high can damage the compressor, heat exchanger, and air conditioner coil. Not all filters have a Merv rating - many of them are purchased at big box stores. A MERV 11 filter only has to stop 20% of particles smaller than 0.3 to 1.0 microns (three to ten times larger than a COVID-19 particle), a MERV 12 only has to stop 35% of particles smaller than 0.3 microns, and a MERV 13 only has to stop half. I think the best thing is to insert the filter into a mask pocket, but I have discovered that this type of mask is very difficult to make (the sides become very thick and when the filter is inserted into the pleated mask it doesn't reach all the way from one end to the other).
One thing to keep in mind is that the MERV 11 air filter may need to be changed a little more frequently than the MERV 8 air filter. This is due to its ability to capture smaller particles which can accumulate faster on its surface and reduce its efficiency over time if not replaced regularly.
